Product Reviews – Vegan based proetin powder sample pack from Veganproteins.com

The great people at veganproteins.com were nice enough to send me a sample pack of 6 different vegan protein powders and food replacement powders.  Some of which I have mentioned here before but some I had yet to try.  I decided to make the exact same shake with all of them to see how each product compared to the next in flavor, consistency and recovery or sustenance ability.  I have to say that Giacomo Marchese and the others at veganproteins seem to take pride in the quality of the products they provide and from what I know, they all use these products regularly to enhance their own athletic lives. stress and cortisol’s role in weight gain and disease

We all know the term that describes moments of harmful stress as “distress” but do you know the term for an optimal level of stress? Product Review – Organic Hemp Protein by Prairie Naturals

I have to say, I have been pleasantly surprised by a lot of the vegan supplements I have sampled so far.  I prefer every one of them to any animal based protein powders that I used to use.  I am also happy that there are a number of different pure sources as well as blends.  I think it is important to have variety in any kind of protein supplement that you use on a regular basis.  Some of us rely on fairly large amounts of protein to supplement our diets, and soy and dairy based products are both highly allergenic.  Brown rice, Pea and Hemp protein powders are all great sources that can also add a variety of flavors for your palate. Vegan Fitness Project – week 20 – vegan hardgainer

About 5 months ago I began a little vegan fitness project.  I went from an animal based diet to a plant based diet, while increasing my activity level to about 2-2.5 hours/day, 5-6 days/week.  Essentially, I wanted to see how plausible it is to for an athlete, or amateur athlete to be vegan.  Thanks to trailblazers like Brendan Brazier, George Laraque, and Scott Jurek, I already new it was possible, but not everyone has the motivation and dedication that actual athletes have and I thought it would be helpful to chronicle the transition from carnivore to herbivore. Foods that fight inflammation

A viscous circle can be culprit to preventing you from losing weight, or even worse, promoting weight gain!  Inflammation of  our tissues has an adverse effect on our abilities to regulate the hormone Leptin.  Leptin is, amongst other things, an appetite suppressor.  Something that is released in the body by fatty tissue to regulate or monitor weight gain.  Unfortunately, when significant inflammation is present, our Leptin resistance is affected and so we no longer communicate the proper responses of being satiated.  To make it worse, being very overweight or obese can in itself cause inflammation of our tissues!  Read More
